Resume tips for legal professionals
Simple habits that make your resume easier to read and harder to ignore.
- 01
Keep it to one or two pages
One page for students and freshers, two at most for experienced professionals. Cut anything that does not support the role you are applying for.
- 02
Lead with a short summary
Two or three lines: your practice area, years of experience and the kind of work you want. Skip generic phrases.
- 03
Show results, not duties
Instead of “handled civil matters”, say what you actually did — matters argued, drafts prepared, forums appeared before.
- 04
Use numbers where you can
Cases handled, contracts reviewed, turnaround times, team size. Specifics make your experience believable.
- 05
List education and credentials clearly
Degree, institution and year. Add bar enrolment, moot courts, internships and publications if they are relevant.
- 06
Stay consistent
One font family, one date format, one bullet style. Templates help, and the editor lets you adjust spacing and colours.
- 07
Proofread twice
In legal work, a typo signals carelessness. Read it aloud, then export to PDF and check the final layout.
- 08
Tailor for every application
Reorder sections and adjust the summary to match the job. Save each version as a project file (.json).
